For more than 25 years as a spine surgeon, I have been involved in over 2,000 spinal operations. Surgery relieves the pain of many patients, yet again and again in the clinic I have thought, "If only we had noticed this posture problem sooner."
Smartphones and computers are now essential to our lives. But the more time we spend at screens, the greater the load on our necks and backs. For 40 years, stiff shoulders and low back pain have remained the most common physical complaints in Japan.
GET BACK was founded to combine medical evidence with technology and support people's health through their everyday posture — long before they need a hospital. The principle behind our first product, Spinometer, has been published in the international journal PLOS One.
We want to bring what we have learned in the clinic to the daily lives of as many people as possible, and we will keep working to make the world healthier, starting from the spine.

M.D., Tohoku University School of Medicine (1999); Ph.D., Tohoku University Graduate School of Medicine (2008).
Associate Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery and Chief of Spine Surgery at Tohoku University. A practicing spine surgeon who has performed more than 2,000 spinal surgeries and still handles over 100 advanced cases a year at Tohoku University Hospital, with a strong focus on exercise therapy for neck, back and stooped-posture problems.
Spent four and a half years in the UK and New York researching the genetics of articular cartilage, with numerous publications including in the Journal of Biological Chemistry.

Graduated from the School of High-Technology for Human Welfare, Tokai University.
After serving at RIKEN's Advanced Center for Computing and Communication, a science and technology research organization, and Tohoku University's Graduate Schools of Engineering and Biomedical Engineering, he became a lecturer and board member of the NPO natural science.
